AUTOPSY REPORTS:
As of January 1, 2025, Montgomery County officially established the Medical Examiner’s Office (MCMEO). All requests related to autopsy reports and cremation waivers for deaths occurring on or after this date must now be directed to their office using the information and links provided below.
Autopsy Reports – Next of kin (as defined by law) may request a copy of the autopsy report at no charge by submitting a signed written request. Other requestors will be subject to a fee. Full details, including the request form and instructions, can be found here:
➡️ Autopsy Report Request – Family Services
Cremation Waivers (Authority to Cremate) – The medical examiner’s office now requires payment for cremation waivers. Funeral homes can find detailed instructions for submitting a request and making a payment on our website:

This information can also be accessed via the main Medical Examiner’s Office page: 🌐 www.mctx.org/mcmeo
Cases prior to 2025 – For deaths that occurred prior to January 1, 2025, the Medical Examiner’s Office was not yet operational. For those cases, report requests should be directed to the Justice of the Peace who had jurisdiction at the time.
Burial Transit and Cremation Permits – Please note: Burial transit permits and cremation permits continue to be issued by the County Clerk’s Office – Vital Statistics Division, not the Medical Examiner’s Office.
